Places to Visit

The historical town is home to several buildings that have been preserved for centuries, many of which are now museums or popular landmarks. You can stroll down cobbled streets, visiting the churches, town hall, gardens around the town. Afterward,  head to the beach or forts and enjoy the beautiful scenery. UNESCO Heritage Site

Town Hall

The Town was officially incorporated in 1797 and regular monthly meetings of the nine elected officials have occurred each month since that time.

Mitchell House

Built 1730 its original architecture has largely been maintained over the centuries. Mitchell House was acquired in 1920s by the recently formed St. George’s Historical Society and from that point on it became a Museum.

Globe Museum & Trustworthy Gift Shop 

Built in 1699, the Globe is one of Bermuda’s oldest buildings. It was home to a govenor and later a hotel patronized by Mark Twain

St Peter’s Church

The oldest surviving Anglican church in continuous use since 1612 outside the British Isles. And reportedly the oldest continuously used Protestant church in the New World

Tucker House Museum

Built in 1752 the house features antiques and furniture. The kitchen was a barber shop run by Joseph Rainey, born into slavery and went on to become the first black US senator

Somer Gardens

Legend has it that the British seaman was so possessed with the urge to develop the island of his discovery, that his heart was later buried in this garden.

Unfinished Church

Began in the 1870s when the St. Peter's Church was badly damaged by a storm. But it was never completed due to infightings between the parish communities

Bridge House

The original wooden structure dates to 1662-63 and construction of the current building was begun in 1702.  It is one of the most photographed and painted buildings.

Fort St. Catherine

Constructed in 1614, Fort St. Catherine towers above the pink-sand beach where the Sea Venture’s crew – Bermuda’s original settlers – came ashore in 1609

Old State House

Built in 1620 it was Bermuda's first stone building and the first purpose-built home of the House of Assembly, and has been used since 1815 as a Masonic lodge.
